The High School Science Department was excited to receive a new lab incubator from the Cissna Park Education Foundation. Students used the incubator to grow bacteria in a lab comparing the natural “antibacterial” properties of skin to other surfaces around the school by swabbing those areas with a sterile swab and then placing agar plates in the incubator for several days to see growth. Upon completion of the lab, students concluded that although skin has antimicrobial properties, they would encourage the public to continue washing their hands and showering regularly. The department is excited to continue using this lab incubator in many other ways in the future.
